Abstract
Purpose
of
Review
Communicating
effectively
with
patients
having
a
traditional,
alternative
or
complementary
medicine-related
health-belief
model
is
challenging
in
today’s
cross-cultural
society.
This
narrative
review
explores
the
integrative
medicine
setting
care,
focusing
on
insights
from
oncology
daily
practice,
while
addressing
relevance
to
mental
health
setting.
The
way
which
healthcare
providers
can
enhance
cultural-sensitive
communication
and
informal
caregivers;
recognize
respect
health-beliefs
bridge
cultural
gaps;
generate
an
open,
non-judgmental
mindful
dialogue
are
discussed.
Recent
Findings
Identifying
barriers
provider-patient
important
order
address
potential
for
conflict
between
conventional
“alternative”
beliefs;
difficulties
creating
shared-decision
making
process;
disagreement
therapeutic
goals
treatment
