Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine how a supervisor’s virtuous leadership as perceived by subordinates influences subordinates’ work-related well-being and the mediating role trust in leader moderating roles individual virtues various characteristics organizations. Design/methodology/approach An online survey was conducted through Prolific among self-selected sample 1,237 employees who worked with an immediate supervisor across industries primarily UK USA. Structural equation modeling used test hypotheses. Findings empirical results indicate that evaluated subordinate positively all three considered dimensions – job satisfaction, affect work engagement for wide variety different countries. Abstract This paper explores the triggers and identity crucibles facing professional doctorate students pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). Unlike prior research, which centres on full‐time PhD students, our study examines work of DBA many whom do not foresee transition to academia. Through 35 semi‐structured interviews, we explore involved ‘becoming doctor’ that encounter. We identify internal external lead crucibles, with their accompanying emotions, examine how these are resolved. research develops current thinking critical management education, revealing uniformly aspire become practitioner‐scholars or academics.
