Abstract Background: Hospital at home (HaH) care models have gained significant attention due to their potential reduce healthcare costs, improve patient satisfaction, and lower readmission rates. However, the lack of a standardized classification system has hindered systematic evaluation comparison these models. Taxonomies serve as systems that simplify complexity enhance understanding within specific domain. Objective: This paper introduces comprehensive taxonomy HaH models, aiming categorize compare various ways services are delivered an alternative traditional hospital care. Methods: We developed characteristics for based on scientific literature by applying development framework. To validate taxonomy, analyze current landscape we matched described in literature. Finally, identify archetypes applied k-means clustering method using taxonomy. Results: Our consists 12 unique dimensions structured into 5 perspectives following progression from triaging, through delivery, operational processes, metrics success: Persons roles (2 dimensions), Target population (1 dimension), Service delivery model (6 outcomes quality dimensions),and training education dimension). Each dimension aggregates between 1 20 characteristics. We identified three clusters dataset 34 approaches. Conclusions: The offers valuable framework providers, policymakers, researchers systematically evaluate implement The challenges encountered collecting information different underscore urgent need more standardised reporting papers interventions.

Cluster analysis 34 revealed three distinct types: One cluster (50%, 17/34) focuses eligibility environment suitability, be chosen clinically complex patients.
