In the 2022 multicountry mpox (formerly named monkeypox) outbreak, several countries offered primary preventive vaccination (PPV) to people at higher risk for infection. We study vaccine acceptance and its determinants, target tailor public health (communication-) strategies in context of limited supply Netherlands.

Although several COVID-19 vaccines are available, the current challenge is achieving high vaccine uptake. We aimed to explore university students' intention get vaccinated and select most relevant determinants/beliefs facilitate informed decision making around uptake.A cross-sectional online survey with students (N = 434) from Maastricht University was conducted in March 2021. The of (i.e., determinants linked vaccination intention, enough potential for change) were visualized using CIBER plots.Students' (80%). Abstract Introduction During an infectious disease outbreak, primary preventive pre-exposure vaccination (PPV) could substantially increase the potential for its control, if uptake is sufficiently high. An important tool to PPV uptake, are communication strategies, with tailored messages targeted modify determinants uptake. Here, we take example of 2022 mpox multicountry as inform development strategies by applying a theoretical framework selecting effective strategies. Methods The Intervention Mapping (IM) was applied during outbreak communications [program]. Steps included: 1. Creating logic model problem [not accepting PPV] reviewing available literature, conducting online survey among people at risk exposure, and consulting community-members, healthcare-and professionals; 2. matrix change [from lower higher acceptance]; 3. Selecting theory-based methods practical applications achieve intended behaviour (getting vaccinated). Results program objective promote in exposure. Important changeable identified included perceived severity mpox, importance protect against [attitude], experienced effectiveness side-effects [response efficacy], social norm. Theory-based optimizing these include provision facts [increasing knowledge], personalized scenario-based information [addressing perception/severity], elaboration, arguments [stimulating positive attitude], gain framing response guided practice skills/self-efficacy overcoming barriers] norm approach [demonstrating norm]. Other key factors that delivery uniform (across channels), clear, accessible, stigma-free messaging, well-timed repeated. Conclusion IM provided valuable These can be used (more quickly) produce implement context possible future, vaccine-preventable, outbreaks.
