Suhuang Zhike (SHZK) Capsules are a traditional Chinese medicine formulation that widely used to treat post-infectious cough. However, evidence supporting their efficacy in anti-asthmatic treatment and asthma-related cough remains limited. This study aimed evaluate the safety of SHZK patients with inadequately or poorly controlled mild-to-moderate asthma explore its potential mechanisms mouse models. A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted 132 participants (Asthma Control Test [ACT]≤19) from three hospitals. Patients were randomly assigned receive either placebo for 14 days, alongside inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) long-acting β2 agonists (LABA), followed by 28-day follow-up. The model investigate SHZK's mechanisms. Although group did not achieve statistically significant improvement ACT scores across overall population, difference observed specific subgroup who had stable prior enrollment. also led more substantial persistent reduction cough-related visual analog scale scores, significantly higher relief rate. reduced blood eosinophils, immunoglobulin E, major basic protein levels compared placebo. improved small airway function. profiles similar between groups. Animal experiments further confirmed synergistic effects reducing inflammation, mucus secretion, collagen deposition. capsules could be an effective adjunct therapy improve control reduce symptoms controlled, asthma.
