The long-term and post-prandial effects of berry consumption on endothelial dysfunction in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

This
systematic
review
and
meta-analysis
evaluated
the
long-term
post-prandial
effects
of
berry
consumption
on
endothelial
dysfunction
(ED)
in
adults.
To
identify
relevant
randomised
controlled
trials
(RCTs),
a
search
was
run
studies
that
examined
berries
ED
markers
were
included.
A
total
45
RCTs
included,
focusing
such
as
flow-mediated
dilation
(FMD),
pulse
wave
velocity
(PWV),
augmentation
index
(AIx),
reactive
hyperaemia
(RHI)
peripheral
resistance
(TPR).
The
revealed
significantly
increased
FMD
decreased
PWV.
However,
no
significant
found
for
AIx,
RHI
or
TPR.
In
studies,
also
improved
FMD,
but
had
impact
PWV,
AIx
RHI.
Overall,
to
benefit
function,
particularly
improving
though
other
cardiovascular
less
consistent.
Factors
