The mental health (MH) of older adults is a prominent public concern. However, research regarding the impact emerging Internet use on MH among remains limited, particularly in transitional economies experiencing rapidly aging population such as China. Thus, to address this gap, study uses data from 2013–2018 waves China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. To investigate causal relationship between explore underlying channels through which operates. results reveal notable positive association adults. Furthermore, highlights social interaction, trust, traveling expenses, healthy habits crucial can analysis also reveals how demonstrates stronger effect individuals who have fewer chronic diseases live with their offspring compared counterparts. These findings significant policy implications, thus emphasizes need enhance means improving MH.

Background The acceleration of population aging and the arrival informatization make more older adults use Internet, its is having an impact on their health. However, relationship between internet health mechanism effect are not very clear. Methods Multiple linear regression models to explore correlation status in 3,141 individuals aged ≥60 years were used. Propensity score matching (PSM) method was used test robustness results. In addition, sequential recursive examine mediating social participation status. Results discussion We found a significant positive status, mediated different among rural urban areas. Conclusions development application products adapted society should be accelerated meet needs for continued socialization. forms activities elderly groups enriched public service usage training seminars conducted improve skills.

Recreational screen time (RST) has been found to be associated with cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases. However, the association between RST age-related macular degeneration (AMD), an ocular disease, is still unclear. We aimed elucidate AMD. This study consisted of three parts: 1) a prospective cohort 482 939 UK Biobank participants 12.8-year median follow-up explore incident AMD; 2) two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis using summary-level genome-wide data for based on 526 725 European individuals assess causality 3) cross-sectional involving 38 478 optical coherence tomography investigate link retinal thickness. Multivariable Cox proportional-hazards models showed that increase in total daily was greater risk developing AMD (hazard ratio (HR) per standard deviation (SD) = 1.05; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.03, 1.07, P < 0.001). With further analysis, we revealed high (>4 h/d) significantly increased compared low (0-3 (HR 1.09; CI 1.04, 1.15, 0.001), while moderate (3.5-4 had no significant effect Restricted cubic spline plots linear dose-response MR confirmed potential causal (odds SD 1.26; 1.01, 1.59, 0.042). suggested thinning outer inner layers Longer may factor lead pathological thinning. Empty nesters represent a unique group that deserves focused attention. Internet usage is becoming increasingly prevalent among older people. This study preliminarily discussed the differences in life satisfaction between empty who used and those did not. also provided insight into how use interacted with social participation to improve their satisfaction. A face-to-face survey was conducted Yangzhou City, China, from July August 2022. Covariates related satisfaction, such as sociodemographic characteristics participants' health behaviors, were collected. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) match users non-Internet users. Binomial logistic regression employed analyze association KHB method examine mediating effect. 1,177 respondents aged 60 above ultimately matched for analysis this study. The results showed significantly correlated higher levels of both (β = 0.276, P < 0.05) 0.433, 0.05). Social partially mediated relationship effect 0.112 accounting 21% total Further heterogeneity indicated positive more prominent participants younger, male, unemployed, had an income, relatively healthy conditions. crucial promoting enhancing rural nesters. Interventions aimed at improving should prioritize creation inclusive supportive environments, encouraging participation, digital literacy.

Abstract Background Internet use is a double-edged sword for older adults’ health. Whether internet can prevent cardiometabolic diseases and death in adults remains controversial. Methods Four cohorts across China, Mexico, the United States, Europe were utilized. was defined using similar questions. Cardiometabolic included diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, with 2 or more denoting multimorbidity. Depressive symptoms assessed Center Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale Europe-depression scale. The competing risk analysis based on subdistribution hazard regression, random-effects meta-analysis, mediation Results A total of 104,422 aged 50 included. users (vs. digital exclusion) at lower risks death, pooled sHRs (95% CIs) 0.83 (0.74–0.93), 0.81 (0.71–0.92), 0.67 (0.52–0.86), respectively, which remained significant sensitivity analyses. inverse associations new-onset progressively Europe. For instance, 14-30% 40% death. These partially mediated by reduced depressive pronounced those high socioeconomic status women. Furthermore, patients prior conditions about 30% if they used internet, also symptoms. However, certain hazards < 65 years, low status, men, single ones observed. Conclusion Enhancing usage reduce thus balance use, health literacy should be considered when popularizing adults.

Objectives: Whether Internet use improves older people's health is an open question. This study empirically investigated the impact of on mental with a focus heterogeneity among subgroups. Method: Data come from 2018 China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (n = 8,505). An instrumental variable quantile regression method (IVQR) combines and to resolve endogeneity generally challenged in ordinary least squares (OLS). Results: Although health, there enormous effects adults different conditions. Specifically, only has mitigating poor health. Those heterogeneities are also found between rural urban residents but not genders. Conclusion: Our findings shed light active healthy aging strategies. Two policy priorities include, one hand, user environment should be improved parallel technology; other multiple measurements urgent developed deal unevenness technology people.
