Abstract Background Antenatal depression is a significant public health issue affecting pregnant women both globally and in China. Using data from mobile app-based screening programme, this study explored the prevalence factors associated with antenatal depressive symptoms across different trimesters Shenzhen. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional was conducted on who gave birth any hospital Shenzhen between July 2021 May 2022 underwent using an official maternal infant app at least once during pregnancy. Depressive were evaluated 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), cut-off scores of 5 10 for mild high level symptoms, respectively. The each trimester determined by calculating proportion scoring or higher. variety sociodemographic, obstetric, psychological, lifestyle assessed their association symptoms. Chi-square test multivariate logistic regression performed to identify predictors. Results total 110,584 included study, overall 18.0% high-level 4.2%. most prevalent first (10.9%) decreased second (6.2%) third (6.3%). Only small (0.4%) showed persistent all trimesters. Anxiety early pregnancy emerged as predictor Other linked increased risk throughout include lower marital satisfaction, living parents-in-law, experience negative life events, well drinking before Factors reduced multiparity daily physical activity. Conclusions This large-scale provides valuable insights into findings underscore need targeted interventions high-risk groups integration mental care routine services. The postpartum period has witnessed increasing rates of depression and anxiety, particularly in the context COVID-19 pandemic, with these conditions often co-occurring being exacerbated by lingering effects long COVID. Traditional interventions, such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) yoga, have demonstrated effectiveness alleviating symptoms. However, limitations in-person sessions, especially pandemic-related restrictions, highlight need for accessible, innovative approaches. Integrating Virtual Reality (VR) technology traditional practices presents a novel solution, offering immersive, customizable environments that may enhance engagement therapeutic outcomes. This study evaluates VR-enhanced mindfulness yoga intervention treating anxiety women affected COVID, additional examination underlying physiological markers cognitive control mechanisms. In this randomized controlled trial, 111 were randomly assigned to experimental (VR-enhanced intervention), (traditional sessions), or blank groups using computer-generated randomization. 8-week involved thrice-weekly 60-minute sessions. Outcomes assessed at baseline, post-intervention, 4-week follow-up Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale, salivary cortisol measurements, an emotional Stroop task. group significant improvements both (EPDS: P < 0.001, ηp2 = 0.18) symptoms (GAD-7: 0.17), significantly greater than those observed (P 0.001 comparisons). These strongly correlated (r 0.68, 0.001). Supporting primary outcomes, levels showed decrease 0.13), improved evidenced reduced task conflict effect 0.37). Correlation analysis revealed robust associations between changes short-term long-term demonstrates integrating VR effectively reduces post-COVID era. parallel provide insight into potential mechanisms effects. findings underscore value immersive enhancing approaches addressing post-pandemic context.

Abstract Background Major depression (MD) during pregnancy complicates maternal and neonatal outcomes. Despite its significant impact, there is a lack of evidence on the prevalence associated factors MD among pregnant women in Uganda. We assessed magnitude with attending antenatal care (ANC) at large teaching hospital Northern Methods Between June August 2023, we enrolled aged 18 years or older ANC clinic Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Data were collected using validated semi-structured questionnaire. was evaluated DSM-V criteria defined as having (1) least two weeks either persistent low mood excessive sadness, (2) plus additional symptoms from diagnostic criterion A, for total five symptoms, (3) caused distress problem significantly altered behaviour functionality. Modified Poisson regression analyses robust standard errors constructed to evaluate independently major depression. Adjusted ratio (aPR) whose 95% confidence interval (CI) did not include null value (0) p < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results 329 participants, mean age 26.1± 5.5 years. Overall, 29.8% ( n = 98) had MD; 37 (11.2%) mild, 49 (14.9%) moderate, 12 (3.6%) severe MD. Having co-wife (aPR: 1.64, CI:1.09–2.45, 0.016), an arranged marriage 1.56, CI: 1.02–2.42, 0.042), partner’s income second quartile 2.14, 1.29–3.54, 0.003), experiencing physical violence 1.75, 1.09–3.81, 0.019), controlling behaviours partner 3.60, 1.79–7.26, 0.001), planned 0.53%, 955 0.35–0.81, 0.003) Conclusion Depression affects nearly one-third more prevalent co-wives, marriages, unplanned pregnancies, partners income, who experienced partner. These findings highlight urgent need targeted interventions, including prevention, screening, treatment services within Antenatal Care clinics. Implementing such measures crucial improving maternal, foetal, health outcomes region.
