Diabetes is a prevalent metabolic condition with substantial health and economic impacts. Therefore, effective accessible indicators are essential for early detection prevention. This study investigates the link between waist-to-calf circumference ratio (WCR) diabetes risk in large cohort from Longevity Check-Up (Lookup) 8+ Study. The present investigation retrospective cross-sectional study. was defined either as self-reported diagnosis, or fasting plasma glucose equal to greater than 126 mg/dL, random 200 mg/dL. WCR calculated by dividing waist calf circumference. A total population of 8900 participants (mean age 57.1 ± 14.8 years, 55% women) included prevalence 9.4%. Mean displayed significant trend (p < 0.001), analysis covariance (ANCOVA) revealed differences among normal, pre-diabetes, groups. Unadjusted logistic regression showed positive association higher diabetes, which remained adjusted models. Receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that had area under compared alone, cut-off values 2.35 men 2.12 women providing high sensitivity (91% men, 92% specificity (74% 75% women). Our introduces novel, simple, cost-effective anthropometric measure identifying individuals at suitable clinical use, especially resource-limited settings.

Research investigating weight loss and mortality risk often fails to differentiate between intentional unintentional typically uses body mass index (BMI) as the measure of excess weight. To evaluate associations waist circumference (WC) reduction mortality, considering intentionality. This cohort study used data from Women's Health Initiative Observational Study, which had a prospective with mean follow-up 18.6 years ending in February 2023. The included women aged 50 79 at 40 clinical centers US. Women missing data, cancer baseline, or considered underweight baseline were excluded. Data collected September 1993 2023 analyzed June December 2024. Measured WC year 3, stratified by who reported not. Outcomes adjudicated all-cause, cancer, cardiovascular, other through end follow-up. Cox proportional hazards regression models (hazard ratios [HRs] 95% CIs) loss, reduction, over 58 961 (mean [SD] age, 63.3 [7.2] years; BMI, 27.0 [5.6]; WC, 84.1 [13.0] cm). As 28, 2023, 29 183 (49.5%) died all causes. Intentional measured questionnaire was associated lower subsequent rates for all-cause (HR, 0.88; CI, 0.86-0.90), 0.87; 0.82-0.92), cardiovascular 0.83-0.91), 0.89; 0.86-0.92), comparing 5 pounds more stable Reported coupled actual 5% only 0.90; 0.81-0.99). 0.91; 0.86-0.95), 0.85; 0.76-0.95), 0.79; 0.72-0.87). Chronic low back pain is prevalent among older adults, who are at a higher risk for sarcopenia. The waist-to-calf circumference ratio has emerged as health indicator, reflecting the balance between central adiposity and muscle mass. This study examined association sarcopenia, well factors like mass, strength, physical performance in patients with chronic pain. Ambulatory aged 65 years were included. Sarcopenia was assessed using 2019 diagnostic criteria from Asian Working Group Sarcopenia. We compared demographic data, pain-related factors, comorbidities, measurements related to sarcopenia obesity across quartiles of ratio. prevalence severe investigated, multivariable analysis conducted identify independent associated Among 592 patients, 85 had (14.3%), 71 (11.9%). Patients high waist-calf more comorbidities longer duration. increased quartile (Q1=7.9%, Q2=8.6%, Q3=14.8%, Q4=16.9%, P=0.006). Aging is a dynamic and progressive process characterized by the gradual accumulation of cellular damage. The continuous functional decline in intrinsic capacity living organisms to precisely regulate homeostasis leads an increased susceptibility vulnerability diseases. Among factors contributing these changes, body composition-comprised fat mass lean deposits-plays crucial role trajectory disability. Particularly, visceral intermuscular deposits increase with aging are associated adverse health outcomes, having been linked pathogenesis sarcopenia. Adipose tissue involved secretion bioactive that can ultimately mediate inter-organ pathology, including skeletal muscle through induction pro-inflammatory profile such as SASP, senescence, immunosenescence, among other events. Extensive research has shown natural compounds have ability modulate mechanisms addition exhibiting anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory potential, making them interesting strategies for promoting healthy aging. In this review, we will discuss how senescence presence phenotype negatively impact composition lead development age-related diseases, well use polyphenols be measure restoring balance, maintaining quality composition, health.
