Importance Studies investigating the role of supportive school environments in associations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) suicidality among adolescents are lacking. Objective To assess ACEs with NSSI examine modifying such associations. Design, Setting, Participants Using data from 2021 School-Based Chinese Adolescents Health Survey, this cross-sectional study includes grades 7 through 12 326 schools across 8 provinces China. Statistical analysis was performed March to October 2024. Exposure ACEs, including individual indicators cumulative numbers by total categorized as threat-related deprivation-related were assessed. Main Outcome Measures NSSI, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts measured using validated questionnaires. Weighted Poisson regression models used. The interaction assessed multiplicative interactions. Results Among 95 549 included (mean [SD] age, 14.9 [1.8] years; 47 617 males [49.8%]), 45 236 individuals (47.3%) had experienced at least 1 ACE. Compared no those who 4 or more an increased risk (prevalence ratio [PR], 1.31; 95% CI, 1.30-1.33) (ideation: PR, 1.41; 1.39-1.42; attempts: 1.25; 1.24-1.27) after adjusting for covariates, environments. A dose-response association observed number (eg, NSSI: 1.06; 1.05-1.06 exposure vs 0 ACEs; 1.10; 1.10-1.11 2 ACEs). highest PRs found physical abuse, emotional bullying) ≥2 ACEs: 1.28; 1.27-1.29 NSSI; 1.33; CI 1.32-1.34 ideation; 1.18; 1.17-1.19 attempts). All ACE positively associated suicidality, particularly high abuse 1.26; 1.24-1.27 NSSI). Additionally, significantly modified 0.81; 0.76-0.88). Conclusion relevance In study, increases independent environments, but could modify detrimental outcomes. These findings underscore importance enhancing prevent have ACEs.

Adverse life experiences have been associated with increased susceptibilities to psychopathology in later life. However, their impact on psychological responses following physical trauma remains largely unexplored. Based the China Severe Trauma Cohort, we conducted a cohort study of 2937 patients who were admitted Medical Center West Hospital between June 2020 and August 2023. experiences, including childhood maltreatment (5 subtypes, measured by Childhood Questionnaire-Short Form) adverse lifetime (17 Life Events Checklist) assessed. Generalized linear mixed models used examine associations symptoms at multiple time-points after index injury (i.e., recruitment, 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-month follow-ups), adjusted for important confounders. We further stratified analyses level genetic predisposition given symptom quantified polygenic risk score (PRS) based publicly available GWAS summary statistics. Mediation performed assess role connecting post-injury psychopathology. The mean age participants was 47.95 years predominance males (61.39%). Exposure to adverse life events is linked somatic disorders. The study aims evaluate the association between at varying stages and risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition affecting about 10% population worldwide. This prospective cohort included 140,997 participants from UK Biobank. Using survey items related childhood maltreatment, adulthood adversity catastrophic trauma, we performed latent class analysis summarize five distinct patterns exposure events, namely "low-level exposure", "childhood "adulthood "sexual abuse" "child-to-adulthood exposure". We used Cox proportional hazard regression with CKD, regression-based mediation decompose total effect, gene-environment-wide interaction (GEWIS) identify interactions genetic loci events. During median follow-up 5.98 years, 2734 cases incident CKD were identified. Compared exposure" pattern, was associated increased (hazard ratio 1.37, 95% CI 1.14 1.65). BMI, smoking hypertension mediated 11.45%, 9.79%, 4.50% this respectively. Other did not show significant results. GEWIS subsequent analyses indicated that magnitude differed according polymorphisms, identified potential underlying pathways (e.g., interleukin 1 receptor activity). These findings underscore importance incorporating an individual's psychological encounters profiles into precision prevention CKD.

Importance Childhood adverse experiences have been linked with long-term risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet the transgenerational associations between interparental behaviors and CVD remain poorly understood. Objectives To explore association exposure to childhood physical violence subsequent examine whether is modified by adult depressive symptoms. Design, Setting, Participants This population-based cohort study included data from China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), an ongoing recruiting individuals aged 45 years or older, dated June 1, 2011, December 31, 2020, a follow-up duration 9 years. The were analyzed October 2023, May 10, 2024. Exposures An early life questionnaire information on frequency witnessing was administered. Depressive symptoms assessed via validated 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. Main Outcomes Measures outcome measures self-reported physician-diagnosed heart (defined as myocardial infarction, angina, coronary disease, failure, other problems) stroke. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models using attained age time scale conducted. Results Of 10 424 participants, mean (SD) 58.1 (9.0) years, 5332 (51.2%) female, 872 (8.4%) reported violence. Exposure associated increased risks adult-onset (hazard ratio [HR], 1.36; 95% CI, 1.20-1.55), (HR, 1.17-1.57), stroke 1.28; 1.03-1.61). exposed had greater prevalence (2371 9335 participants [25.4%]), which mediated 11.0% 1.26; 1.09-1.45). Conclusions Relevance In this study, higher CVD, partially findings emphasize need comprehensive strategies policy efforts that address social determinants provide household education opportunities.
