Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic characterized by different cell infiltrates in the intestine. The aims of this study were to report clinical and clinicopathological findings horses with histological changes compatible IBD duodenum. Further, progression survival investigated. Patient records reviewed for which evidence was found duodenal biopsies collected during endoscopy. classified as mild, moderate or severe predominant infiltrating type recorded. Clinical improvement assessed owner via questionnaire at 6 weeks after biopsy, along one year. In total, 149 included, most common signs weight loss, reduced performance pain abdominal palpation. Most showed partial malabsorption an oral glucose absorption test, had lower serum protein concentrations. Lymphoplasmacytic enteritis (78.5% cases), while six neutrophilic infiltration duodenum present. Overall, 71% cases improved clinically weeks, mostly following treatment corticosteroids. results second biopsy poor predictor improvement, that more likely be alive

Abstract Background Anaerobic fungi are effective fibre-degrading microorganisms in the digestive tract of horses. However, our understanding their diversity and community structure is limited, especially different parts gastrointestinal tract. Results For first time, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyse predict fungal microbial Mongolian The results revealed that richness hindgut horses were much higher than those foregut. foregut dominated by Basidiomycota Ascomycota, whereas Neocallimastigomycota Basidiomycota. At genus level, relative abundance many pathogenic ( Cryptococcus, Cladosporium, Alternaria , Sarocladium ) significantly posterior gut, indicating have strong disease resistance. prediction function also showed significant differences flora between hindgut. horses’ foreguts mainly pathologically nutritive contained animal plant pathogens, particularly small intestine (jejunum ileum). This indicates may be most important immune site system horses, which explains high resistance number unassigned functional groups gut anterior functions not been fully explored, further studies required future. Conclusions Analysis composition varied greatly among segments whose contains anaerobic involved cellulose degradation. provides basic data for studying healthy can health assessment clues research on capacity as well a reference early diagnosis intestinal diseases innovative treatment methods.

Determination of digestibility represents the first step for evaluation net energy content feed livestock animals. The aim this study was to evaluate in vivo and vitro degradability five diets characterized by different forage/concentrate ratios (F:C) horses. determined Gas Production Technique (GPT), using as an inoculum source feces same subjects used test. Five consisting poliphyte hay, straw grains barley oats with a F:C ratio [90/10 (Diet 1); 78/22 2); 68/32 3); 60/40 4); 50/50 5) were formulated administered succession, starting Diet 1. In results, no significant differences emerged, despite content. fermentation, four out (2, 3, 4, presented similar trend curve gas production, showing good activity fecal micro population during hours incubation. An important correlation between Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) found, suggesting that processes linked deriving from horse’s caecum follow metabolic pathways whose products can be modeled way rumen. Erosions and gastric ulcers may be present in horses at any age under different conditions of rearing handling. In tropical regions, can feed on fruits rich soluble carbohydrates, such as mangoes, but little is known about how these foods interact with their digestive systems. To test the hypothesis that ingestion ripe mangoes peels could cause disturbances processes horses, an experiment was developed to monitor animals had free access pasture areas. Horses (purebred Arabians, n = 5; ~340 kg, ~13 years) were evaluated by video gastroscopy blood analysis. A controlled postprandial glucose curve for mango intake also performed. Gastroscopies performed intervals 15 days, starting December, just before beginning harvest, until February, days after end harvest. Blood collection same day between November February The results submitted ANOVA Tukey’s test, a significance level p < 0.05. indicated four out five erosions squamous region 30 start season. Biochemical tests reduction plasma proteins during harvest period, showed concentrations above 200 mg/dL 180 min 5.37 kg mangoes. not treated recovered without ground. It concluded indiscriminate favors appearance lesions region, varying degrees, recover naturally average from season when return regular feeding hay grass pasture.

Concentrations of starch, mono- and disaccharides, fructans, hemicellulose cellulose were analysed in feed gastric digesta horses relation to acid insoluble ash as a marker indigestible the stomach. Twenty-four allocated pasture 24 h/d (PST; n = 4), hay ad libitum (HAY; 8), lib. oats at 1 g starch/kg body weight (BWT)/meal (OS1; 6) 2 BWT/meal (OS2; 5). One horse was excluded from analysis. The fed ration minimum 34 days. Following euthanasia dissection, sampled Pars nonglandularis (PNG) glandularis (PG). Oat starch concentration decreased 309 174 g/kg dry matter (DM) OS1 (44 %-reduction) 367 261 DM OS2 (29 (P < 0.001). Glucose, fructose sucrose disappeared distinctly more PST, HAY than OS2. In PST HAY, completely cleared fructans reduced predominantly (84 (54 %-reduction), mainly PNG 0.05). Fructan degradation did not occur high-starch diet (OS2). Some evidence for fibre observed 0.01). Soluble carbohydrates disappear stomach dependent on type ration, which may lead changes composition microbial community endogenous response.

The proximity a surface water body, destination stall bedding, management practices whether they receive veterinary advice characteristics analyzed relation feed, its composition consumption according performance animals. A nominal qualitative analysis on impact was carried out considering three categories: low, medium high. association between four variables has shown only two have low impact, while eighteen five high impact. results show role professional veterinarian key minimizing excretions bedding should be reviewed order reduce presents recommendations associated with use, feed manure management.
