Accidental poisonings by ingesting conjunctival fluid mixed with eye drops commonly involve alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists and tetrahydrozoline. These substances are recognized in reported ingestions. Victims of all ages, otherwise good health, often present as pale lethargic to the emergency department (ED) after unintentionally topical medication. While drop poisoning cases childhood include accidents during play adults mean either suicide attempts or side effects caused systemic absorption substance, ocular surface is a risk age groups. With this mind, study aimed summarize data literature on tetrahydrozoline dangerous medications, even when administered low-bioavailability forms, such drops. aim, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)-compliant systematic review relevant studies was conducted. A search PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, EBSCOhost yielded nine that met rigorous inclusion criteria. The primary were subject meta-analysis once quality appraisal narrative synthesis extracted had been author hopes information will provide observations lead better designs over-the-counter drops, off-label drug usage policies, parental attention.

Abstract Neuroinflammation is a pathological process mediated through immune cell activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine release, resulting in neuronal death. In the central nervous system (CNS), neuroinflammation characteristic feature underlying onset progression of retinal neurodegenerative diseases. Targeting to reduce death protect against visual cognitive declines therefore key therapeutic strategy. However, due complex multi-faceted nature these diseases, date there has been little success with single target approaches insufficient tackle widespread multi-pathway inflammatory cascades. Furthermore, as retina brain reside within immune-privileged environments, major challenge treating diseases producing delivering that, itself, does not exacerbate inflammation. Extracellular vesicles (EV), derived from red blood cells (RBC EV), present promising solution overcome hurdles, their innate ability cross blood-tissue barriers, biocompatible nature, broad anti-inflammatory properties modulate neuroinflammatory pathways. This study investigated potential RBC EV mediating using an in-vivo photo-oxidative damage model degeneration for CNS neuroinflammation. this work, we developed novel incubation pipeline N1 medium supplement superoxide dismutase (SOD) supplementation promote production safe, neuroprotective, EV. Delivery vivo , was shown be safe strong penetration across all layers. Further, administration via local intravitreal injection significantly reduced inflammation preserved function. Notably, safety efficacy also demonstrated following systemic (intraperitoneal) administration, highlighting game-changing approach less-invasive delivery CNS. Finally, multi-omic analyses vitro findings supported mechanism-of-action, modulating including those known involved pathogenesis Taken together, highlight applicability CNS, presenting scalable effective treatment currently untreatable

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between refractive errors and common chronic diseases using blood biochemistry tests, investigate associated modifiable risk factors, with goal informing developing effective preventive strategies. Methods: A total 116,245 participants refractometry at baseline enrolled in UK Biobank were included prospective cohort study. Restricted cubic spline Cox proportional hazards models used detect associations error, diseases. Interaction effects on additive scale effect modification analysis explore excess factors for disease prevention. Results: Spherical equivalent significantly vitamin D, sex hormone binding globulin, apolipoprotein A, glucose, aspartate aminotransferase levels. Subjects myopia demonstrated a 13% higher type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) incidence compared those without (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.13, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08–1.19) throughout median follow-up 9.12 years. revealed 15% (95% CI 9%–21%) due myopia-obesity interaction. However, active engagement physical activity could potentially mitigate (HR 1.06, 0.93–1.20). Conclusions: Refractive specific indicators, particularly noting T2DM middle-aged elderly populations. This interacts obesity, promoting among individuals provides greater benefits prevention non-myopic individuals.
