Background Many autistic children experience motor skill deficits which can impact other areas of functioning, and research on therapeutic interventions for skills in autism is a preliminary stage. Music-based therapies have been used extensively to address non-autistic populations. Though handful studies exist the effects music-based movement children, none investigated possibility administering sessions via telehealth. This mixed-methods pilot study whether nine Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) ® telehealth would improve attention children. Methods Five between five 10 years age participated study, with support from their caregivers. Motor were assessed using Bruininks-Oseretsky Test Proficiency second edition, short form (BOT-2 SF), selective sustained task taken Everyday Attention Children, Second Edition (TEA-Ch2). Caregivers two neurologic music therapists involved provided qualitative input about perceived effectiveness NMT involved. Their responses analyzed content analysis. also filled out Sensory Profile 2 assessment prior onset so that each child’s sensory profile could be compared results. Results Statistically significant improvements observed pre-test two-week follow-up assessment. test scores not significant. generally positively noted importance having caregivers actively When individual progress BOT-2 SF assessment, results revealed fewer sensitivities tended most skills. We need to combine sensory data from various sources make sense of the world around us. This helps us understand our surroundings, influencing experiences and interactions within everyday environments. Recent interest in sensory-focused approaches supporting autistic people has fixed on auditory processing-the hearing act listening-and its crucial role language, communications, social domains, as well non-social autism-specific attributes, better how processing might differ people. In this narrative review, we synthesize published research into relationship between attributes a contextually novel way. The purpose is these domains more fully, drawing evidence gleaned experiential perspectives through neurological investigations. also examine diagnosable conditions, such hyperacusis, misophonia, phonophobia, intolerance loud sounds, relation sleep, anxiety, overload. Abstract Self‐injurious behaviors (SIB) encompass a heterogeneous set of self‐inflicted aggressive that are highly prevalent in autistic youth. Existing research on SIB autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been limited by significant methodological and conceptual inconsistencies. Thus, the current study leveraged item‐level data capturing severity unique topographies to further understanding factors associated with distinct sample 582 youth ( M age = 12.12, SD 3.68; range: 3–19 years; 13% females). Results suggest variation endorsements for specific amongst youth, such 30%–50% caregivers endorsed slight very serious concern regarding bites nails/skin/fingers, scratches self, hits head/face/neck, bangs head against things, picks skin. Generalized additive models demonstrated patterns associations between each topography dysregulation, sensory hypersensitivity, age, sex, IQ, language level. Findings underscore importance exploring as multifaceted construct capture correlates vary functional impact, which is critical development effective interventions. Social touch plays a vital role in human development, communication, and general well-being. However, the mechanisms underlying how social elicits pleasant or aversive responses are poorly understood. Furthermore, it remains unclear alterations sensory processing, at both perceptual level (i.e. detection discrimination of stimuli) behavioural response to stimuli), shape experience touch, addition contextual factors such as gender culture. In current study, we used vibrotactile psychophysics novel paradigm assess association between tactile differences preference two cross-cultural cohorts (54 adults UK 21 Singapore). We found that participants with poorer thresholds had lower pleasantness ratings for higher non-social stronger predictive effect than culture alone. also evidence strong effects, female rated different-gender less males. Singaporean showed preferences participants. Our results suggest bottom-up mechanism linking greater aversion adults. while some cultural were observed level, contributions appeared be conserved, suggesting shared biological cultures. These findings could have implications clinical conditions characterised by altered processing.
