Purpose of review The vaginal microbiome has a fundamental role in supporting optimal vaginal, reproductive, and sexual health. Conversely, dysbiosis the is linked to symptoms adverse health outcomes. This summarizes recent literature concerning disease, with focus on most common dysbiosis, bacterial vaginosis. Recent findings Molecular studies have expanded our understanding composition microbiome. Lactic acid-producing lactobacilli are an important component host defences against pathogens, whereas paucity associated sequelae. Bacterial vaginosis characterized by low levels increased nonoptimal anaerobes; however, exact cause remains unclear. Furthermore, despite decades research, recurrence rates following standard treatment unacceptably high. Strategies improve cure promote lactobacilli-dominated being investigated. Importantly, historical emerging evidence supports transmission vaginosis, which opens exciting opportunities for novel treatments that incorporate partners. Summary A mechanistic deeper disease needed inform ongoing development therapeutics cure. Partner holds promise improving

Abstract The microbial diversity of rose jam was analyzed by high‐throughput sequencing, along with functional prediction the bacterial community. results indicate that Pseudomonas , Pantoea and Burkholderia emerged were top three dominant groups. Proteobacteria particularly abundant in R4 (99.1%) R6 (96.12%). Zygosaccharomyces unclassified fungi, Botrytis constituted fungal presence OTUs observed all samples, (52.36%), R8 (45.28), R9 samples (39.57%). Gene using PICRUSt revealed existence multiple KEGG modules associated human metabolism each sample. a high abundance genes indicated community's diverse wide range microgenetic resources can be further explored for research purposes. community found exhibits remarkable encompasses valuable information relevant to health.

ABSTRACT Composition of the vaginal microbiome in pregnancy is associated with adverse maternal, obstetric, and child health outcomes. Identifying sources individual differences therefore considerable clinical public interest. The current study tested hypothesis that composition during an individual’s experience affective symptoms stress exposure. Data were based on a prospective longitudinal diverse medically healthy community sample 275 mother-infant pairs. Affective exposure select measures biomarkers (diurnal salivary cortisol, serum sex hormones) collected at each trimester; self-report, clinical, medical records used to collect detailed data socio-demographic factors behavior, including diet sleep. Vaginal samples third trimester (34-40 weeks) characterized by 16S rRNA sequencing. Identified taxa clustered into three state types (CST1-3) dissimilarity microbiota composition. Results indicate depressive reliably CST3 trimester. Prediction functional potential from taxonomy revealed differential abundance metabolic pathways CST1-3 taxa, biosynthetic for neuroactive metabolites, serotonin dopamine. With exception bioavailable testosterone, no significant associations found between symptoms- stress-related CSTs. Our results provide further evidence how prenatal psychological distress alters maternal-fetal ecosystem may be important understanding maternal Importance Prenatal are outcomes, but mechanisms underlying these links their application intervention remain unclear. findings this investigation extend prior microbiome-oriented research demonstrating has biologically plausible mechanistic link also suggest additional applications assessment intervention.
