Abstract Dysphagia is common in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and assumed to complicate medication intake. This study comprehensively investigates dysphagia for its association with motor complications PD. Based on a retrospective analysis, two-dimensional graduated classification of was introduced differentiating swallowing efficiency safety. In subsequent prospective study, sixty-six PD patients underwent flexible endoscopic evaluation swallowing, which included the 2 tablets capsules different sizes. present nearly 70% predicted according MDS-UPDRS-part-IV linear regression model. Capsules tended be swallowed more efficiently compared tablets, irrespective size. A score ≥1 swallow-related-MDS-UPDRS-items can considered an optimal cut-off predict medication. Swallowing impairment oral may predispose complications.

Oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) is a frequent finding in older patients with potentially lethal complications such as aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, and dehydration. Recent studies describe sarcopenia causative factor for OD, which occasionally referred to “sarcopenic dysphagia” the absence of neurogenic etiology. In most previous on sarcopenic dysphagia, diagnosis was based only clinical assessment. this study, flexible endoscopic evaluation swallowing (FEES) used an objective method evaluate presence its association sarcopenia, pure dysphagia. retrospective cross-sectional 109 acute care geriatric hospital suspected OD received FEES examination bioimpedance analysis (BIA) routine. 95% had at least one neurological disease, 70% fulfilled criteria 45% displayed moderate or severe OD. Although prevalence high, there no significant between sarcopenia. Considering these results, both appear questionable. Further prospective are needed elucidate if merely epiphenomenon disease whether it plays role development

Abstract This study employs the Homotopy perturbation method to analyze behavior of immiscible, incompressible fluids within a cylindrical coaxial tube, focusing on scenarios relevant physiological fluid dynamics, particularly in catheterized oesophagus and similar biological systems. Adopting long-wavelength low Reynolds number approximations, two-layered model is proposed with micropolar core Newtonian periphery regions. Parameters such as velocity, flux, friction, pressure, impedance variations are formulated, under influence dilating wave amplitude. Generally, when catheter introduced, pressure rises. It further found that while falls increasing parameter, it rises coupling upon insertion. Thus feeding patients during catheter-assisted pre-diagnosis impractical due associated rise. Observations suggest complex profile bolus passage through broadening size. Additionally, exponentially increases size, influenced by parameters numbers, exhibiting higher than fluids. However, this underscores significant impact catheterization notably oesophageal two threefold. highlights critical role catheters altering flow characteristics, emphasizing need for careful medical intervention pre-diagnostic assessments.
