Objective To examine the prevalence of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) prescribed among older patients diagnosed with psychiatric diseases and to identify associated factors. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted who visited outpatient clinics in Saudi Arabia between June 1st, 2019, May 31st, 2023. PIMs use estimated using updated 2019 American Geriatric Society (AGS) Beers criteria. Data were analyzed chi-square or Fisher's exact test for categorical variables t -test continuous compare without PIMs. In addition, Pearson correlation performed total number prescriptions Multivariable logistic regression analysis used explore Statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Results Our included 306 diseases, 156 (50.98%) group 150 (49.02%) non-PIMs group. There a considerable positive ( r = 0.76; 0.0001). The adjusted revealed significantly higher risk individuals comorbid neurological compared those [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 2.48, 95% CI [1.15–5.32]]. contrast, not greater hypertension {AOR 1.67, [(0.79–3.54)]}, diabetes mellitus 1.25, [(0.66–2.34)]}, pulmonary disease 2.34, [(0.69–7.96)]}. Conclusion highlighted elevated adults setting, particularly diseases. Therefore, clinical pharmacists may play crucial role improving outcomes illnesses. Finally, future studies should additional strategies reduce this population.
