Here we introduce a new assessment of emotion regulation called the Mentalized Affectivity Scale (MAS). A large online adult sample (N = 2,840) completed 60-item MAS along with battery psychological measures. Results revealed robust three-component structure underlying mentalized affectivity, which labeled: Identifying emotions (the ability to identify and reflect on factors that influence them); Processing modulate distinguish complex emotions); Expressing tendency express outwardly or inwardly). Hierarchical modeling suggested delineates from them, them. We then showed how these components are associated personality traits, well-being, trauma, 18 different disorders (including mood, neurological, disorders). Notably, those anxiety, profile high low compared controls. Further, results affectivity scores varied across treatment modalities years spent in therapy. Taken together, model advances prior theory research is useful reliable instrument can be used both clinical non-clinical settings psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience.

The Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (RFQ) is an 8-item self-report measure of reflective functioning that presumed to capture individual differences in hypo- and hypermentalizing. Despite its broad acceptance by the field, we argue validity not well-established. current research elaborates on problems RFQ related item content, scoring procedure, dimensionality, associations with psychopathology. We tested these considerations across three large clinical non-clinical samples from Germany US (total N = 2289). In a first study, found may assess single latent dimension hypomentalizing but rather unlikely maladaptive forms Moreover, exhibited very strong measures personality pathology, while symptom distress were less strong. second preregistered study focused convergent discriminant validity, however, commonality analysis indicated indicators pathology are inflated because some items tap into emotional lability impulsivity than mentalizing. Our findings demonstrate limitations RFQ. discuss key challenges assessing mentalizing via self-report.

To explore question whether metacognitive research psychosis offers unique insight midst these other two emerging fields, we have offered a review constructs from each field. As part a broader concept parental mentalization, PRF has been identified as one the central predictors for sensitive parenting. However, unique contribution quality various parenting not yet addressed systematically. Thus, present article provides systematic overview current research on associations between or its sub-dimensions observed infancy early childhood, while considering influence contextual factors.

The construct of epistemic trust has received much consideration in recent psychological literature, even though mainly from a theoretical perspective. overall aim this study was to validate the first self-report measure trust-the Epistemic Trust, Mistrust, and Credulity Questionnaire (ETMCQ)-in an Italian sample. Our primary goal test factorial validity instrument, also exploring influence age, gender, level education on (Study 1, n = 843). Secondarily, we investigated associations between trust, mistrust, credulity, other aspects functioning, as well with presence adverse childhood experiences smaller number participants 2, 445). Besides ETMCQ, survey included ad hoc questionnaire investigating socio-demographic characteristics measures reflective mentalized affectivity, traumatic experiences, attachment, symptoms. Statistical analysis showed three-factor hierarchical structure similar model proposed original validation, some differences that suggest cultural factors determining individuals' stance. results corroborate previous contributions regarding association wellbeing, disruptions higher levels suffering. Both Mistrust were significantly related attachment avoidance anxiety, lower mentalization, abilities emotional regulation, psychopathological ETMCQ represents easily administered time-effective tool. Its use could pave way for interesting clinical findings.

Abstract The Parental Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (PRFQ) provides an efficient way to measure a parent's capacity recognize their child's mental states and understand the relationship between underlying behavior. To date, limited work evaluates its psychometric properties beyond initial validation studies. Here we examined reliability validity of PRFQ in three samples varying clinical risk (e.g., community sample, previous health diagnosis, substance use disorder diagnosis). Across samples, majority 75%–78%) mothers identified as White; all were from USA. We compared task‐based measures mentalization, Parent Development Interview (PDI), parent‐child relationship. was reliable across it associated theoretically consistent ways with mentalization. While functional neuroimaging studies have reported on the neural correlates of severe antisocial behaviors, such as delinquency, little is known about whole brain resting state connectivity (FC) incarcerated adolescents (IA). The aim present study to identify potential differences in between a group male IA, compared community (CA). second objective investigate relations among FC and psychological factors associated with delinquent namely psychopathic traits (callous unemotional traits, interpersonal problems, impulsivity), socio-cognitive (empathy reflective functioning RF) impairments problems (externalizing, internalizing, attention thought problems). 31 IA 30 CA participated 8 minutes MRI. Network Based Statistics (NBS) was used compare 142 regions two groups. Correlation regressions analysis were performed explore associations self-reported empathy, RF, problems. Compared CA, presented significantly increased distributed subnetwork including medial prefrontal, posterior dorsal cingulate, temporal, occipital regions. Both within across sample, mean correlated lower RF (RF uncertainty). Across higher scores externalizing impulsivity dimension psychopathy. extending characterization our results also provide insights into neurofunctional mechanisms linking low abilities behavior during adolescence.
