ABSTRACT The global shrimp processing industry generates substantial amounts of solid waste (head, abdominal exoskeleton, and tail), with a considerable part currently being disposed in landfills. It holds significant potential as an alternative ingredient aquaculture feed due to its relatively high crude protein content, balanced amino acid profile, presence bioactive compounds. However, one the main challenges is rapid spoilage. Consequently, must undergo further refinement produce shrimp‐derived products suitable ingredients, such meal, hydrolysate, or silage. This literature review describes nutritional value, applications, challenges, prospects these feed. Among investigated products, hydrolysate has highest value considering low chitin ash content. producing requires extensive processing, which can be costly, limiting applications high‐value species. On other hand, meal silage, require less energy‐intensive may more for lower‐value species that naturally consume feeds chitin. using aquafeed are promising, advances technologies showing reduce costs, improve enhance product quality safety. Ultimately, could replace current ingredients while simultaneously utilizing streams, provided safety measures carefully considered.

Globally, microplastics (MP) represent a growing burden for ecosystems due to their increasing presence at different trophic levels. In Ecuador, the lack of waste segregation has increased quantity waste, primarily organics and plastics, overloading landfills water sources. Over time, plastics reduce in size silently enter food chain animals, such as insects. The black soldier fly (BSF) larvae, Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus, 1758), is species with devouring behavior used management because its beneficial qualities pest control, biomass production, rapid organic degradation. Studies have uncovered insect's ability tolerate MP, consider possibility that they may be able degrade polymers. For first time present study characterized H. using sequences molecular markers. Finally, illucens' degrading capacity was evaluated MP decaying residues, resembling landfill conditions.
