SARS-CoV-2 continues to spread and infect people worldwide. While most effort into characterizing variants of this virus have focused on non-synonymous changes, accumulation synonymous mutations in different viral has also occurred. Here we characterize six Variants Concern terms their mutational content, make predictions regarding the impact those potential genomic RNA secondary structure stability. We find that typically no or modest structure. As are free from selective pressure imposed protein-altering mutations, is largely limited considerations. The absence major, structure-altering emphasize importance structure, including within coding regions, fitness.
