#GentleParenting presents a novel trend in networked parenting communities. Its rise correlates with the COVID-19 pandemic, during which parents’ access to medical professionals decreased significantly. In this vacuum, group of lay experts arose and continues gain influence. Through mixed-method study that combines critical discourse analysis contextual visual analysis, article analyzes dataset sample posts compiled from TikTok Instagram. My findings suggest an epochal shift culture is taking place, involving break some fundamental tenets previously dominant intensive mothering. Informed by feminist critiques, my explicates concept I call “fifth shift” describe additional burdens involved online parenting.
