In this study, the spatial–temporal characteristics of AOD in Yellow River Basin (YRB) and urban agglomerations within basin were analyzed at a 1 km scale from 2011 to 2020 based on MCD19A2 dataset. This study shows following: (1) From 2020, value YRB showed declining trend, with 96.011% zones experiencing decrease AOD. The spatial distribution displayed pattern high east, low west, south, north. rate decline fast southeast slow northwest. (2) similar different seasons: south east consistently higher than north west. seasonal values following pattern: summer > spring autumn winter. agglomeration basically larger summer. (3) SDE mean center yearly located Shanxi Province, movement It can be divided into three stages trajectory: northeast–southwest round-trip (2011–2014), one-way northwest (2014–2018), southeast–northwest (2018–2020).
