In summer 2012, we initiated a large-scale field experiment in southern Ontario, Canada, to determine whether exposure clothianidin seed-treated canola (oil seed rape) has any adverse impacts on honey bees. Colonies were placed or control fields during bloom, and thereafter moved an apiary with no surrounding crops grown from seeds treated neonicotinoids. Colony weight gain, production, pest incidence, bee mortality, number of adults, amount sealed brood assessed each colony throughout autumn. Samples honey, beeswax, pollen, nectar regularly collected, samples analyzed for residues. Several these endpoints also measured spring 2013. Overall, colonies vigorous after the period, found effects endpoint measures. Bees foraged heavily test peak bloom residue analysis indicated that bees exposed low levels (0.5–2 ppb) pollen. Low detected few pollen collected toward end hives, illustrating difficulty conducting perfectly controlled study free-ranging agricultural landscapes. Overwintering success did not differ significantly between treatment was similar overwintering loss rates reported winter 2012–2013 beekeepers Ontario Canada. Our results suggest poses risk
