Biophotons is the very weak light generated by cells. This has been shown to change with different states of cell activity and/or health. Although their precise significance still not clear, biophotons are thought function as a means cell-to-cell communication and repair. In this narrative review, we consider first, current technology available that detects biophotons. These include (1) photomultipliers: these devices have advantages giving real-time outputs, cover relatively large detection area low dark-noise per unit ability; quantum efficiency great however they do ability capture images; (2) image detectors: can images an ultra-sensitive camera, together count photons from living tissue; process acquiring take long time however, photon counts less accurate than those obtained photomultipliers (3) histological methods: relies on reduction silver (Ag) + Ag mark sites activation be identified microscope; there some issues how affects tissue whether it influence biophoton count. Next, prospects for future methods may determine both functional biophotons, used clinically. The development better in field research reveal understanding brain functions under normal pathological conditions.

Microtubules (MTs) have been postulated as one of the molecular targets underlying loss consciousness induced by inhalational anesthetics. Microtubule-targeting chemotherapy drugs and opioids affect MT stability function. However, impact prolonged administration these on anesthetic potency anesthesia induction emergence times remain unelucidated. Epothilone D, paclitaxel, vinblastine or opioid morphine were administered alone for a period (> 2 weeks) to male CD1 mice their sensitivity incremental concentrations isoflurane examined using righting reflex (LORR) response measure sensivity. The time after termination fixed concentration isoflurance (1.2%) also assessed. Compared with saline treatment, epothilone D leftward (more sensitive) shift LORR curves (95% confidence intervals EC50: 0.75[0.73, 0.77] vs. saline, 0.97[0.96, 0.98]; vinblastine, 0.74[0.73, 0.75] 0.98[0.97, 0.99]). In contrast, caused rightward resistant) curve (morphine, 1.16[1.15, 1.17] 0.98]), while paclitaxel produced marginal but significant (paclitaxel, 1.05[1.03, 1.06] At 1.2% isoflurane, treatment (275 ± 50) reduced (96.5 26) latency (in second) relative (211 39). from was shorter in (58 20) vinblastine-treated (98 43) compared (176 treatment. latencies did not differ between groups. Microtubule-modulating can only mice. This study highlights possible role MTDs modulating effects disparate directions, which has implications that should be used induction, maintenance anesthesia. These findings rodents may relevance perioperative care cancer patients who receive MT-targeting even pain periods.

The three main ideas of the relation between brain and mind, Cartesian dualism, epiphenomenalism brain–mind identity theory are critically reviewed. point is made that none these ideas, or their numerous variants, based on explicit biological, physical, mechanisms therefore not scientific in nature. By contrast, Penrose–Hameroff orchestrated objective reduction does make testable biological predictions. I do discuss per se, but review two its recent experimental tests for purpose urging caution interpretation results. A brief neural correlates consciousness follows. It concluded such experiments neither support nor falsify any mind. First foremost, science experimental. Consequently, to bring mind–brain problem realm requires we directly measure conscious states way electric current, blood pressure, as examples. entity state measurements will be referred ‘conscions’, must causally linked activity. If this were ever realized, a deep gap understanding would persist. This because what refer Tyndall’s point. can summarized with simple example follows: if love found associated right-handed turn given molecule hate left-handed turn, then question ‘why have feelings’ remain unanswerable.

Abstract Recent experimental evidence, briefly reviewed here, points to intraneuronal microtubules as a functional target of inhalational anesthetics.
