Abstract Identifying and responding adaptively to a change in our environment is an essential skill. However, differences ability detect disposition react these changes mean that some individuals are better equipped deal with than others. Here, we investigate whether intolerance of uncertainty, transdiagnostic dimension psychopathology, associated performance during reversal learning task. We assessed task 145 subjects using behavioural measures computational modelling across two time points (approximately 12 days apart). Intolerance uncertainty its prospective inhibitory subscales were performance, irrespective self-reported levels trait anxiety. subscale positively increased sensitivity reinforcement from positive, but not negative, feedback. Furthermore, the was both overall (as indexed by accuracy) immediately following reward contingencies perseveration). Lastly, interacted extent which choice driven expected value points. These findings provide novel evidence for how may modulate flexibility changeable environments. The study towards exciting avenues further research into development IU-related behaviours lifespan their implications mental health.

Outcome uncertainty is known to engage motivational and emotional phenomena. However, there remain questions as how outcome related gain loss information availability via performance feedback interact impact phenomena: (1) generally, (2) in relation individual differences intolerance of uncertainty, current symptoms anxiety depression. To address these gaps the literature, we manipulated level (gain, loss, none) (present, absent) during an online cognitive control task (n = 70), examine factors different read-outs: subjective responses (discrete states, valence, arousal), accuracy, reaction times, fixation count. Self-reported general distress, anxious arousal, anhedonic depression were also collected. Uncertainty about through absence dampened positive self-reported affect (e.g. excitement) led demotivation lower accuracy for incongruent trials). modulated excitement, happiness etc) engaged motivation higher accuracy). The exaggerated experience negative emotions such frustration. Individual specifically associated with experiences emotion valence) engagement count). These findings suggest that feedback, well anxious/depressive traits differently emotion.
