The cochlea of our auditory system is an intricate structure deeply embedded in the temporal bone. Compared with other sensory organs such as eye, has remained poorly accessible for investigation, example, by imaging. This limitation also concerns further development technology restoring hearing case cochlear dysfunction, which requires quantitative information on spatial dimensions and sensorineural status cochlea. Here, we employed X-ray phase-contrast tomography light-sheet fluorescence microscopy their combination multiscale multimodal imaging morphology species that serve established animal models research. We provide a systematic reference morphological parameters relevant implant rodent nonhuman primate models. simulate spread light from emitters optical implants within reconstructed cochlea, indicates spatially narrow optogenetic excitation spiral ganglion neurons.

Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and malignant Grade IV primary craniocerebral tumor caused by glial cell carcinogenesis with an extremely poor median survival of 12–18 months. The current standard treatments for GBM, including surgical resection followed chemotherapy radiotherapy, fail to substantially prolong outcomes. Adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy has recently attracted considerable interest because its relatively low cytotoxicity, immunogenicity, broad tissue tropism, long-term stable transgene expression. Furthermore, a range trials using AAV as vehicles are being investigated thwart deadly GBM in mice models. At present, delivered brain local injection, intracerebroventricular (ICV) or systematic injection treat experimental model. In this review, we summarized AAV-based treatment compared advantages disadvantages different approaches. We systematically introduced prospect approach GBM.

Abstract Genetically‐targeted neuromodulation, such as opto‐ or chemogenetics, is important for cell‐type specific neuromodulation different applications. Modulating peripheral nerves a daunting task due to the wide variety of constraints in periphery, size, location, and relative distance other nerves. This has resulted many researchers developing innovative solutions modulate nerves, including types light‐emitting devices optogenetics, ligands designer drugs (DREADDs) use nanotechnology. Although spinal cord part central nervous system, it often site stimulation modulating function periphery anatomy same obstacles modulation review summarizes current efforts genetically‐targeted grouped by applications, going through major areas which advancements have been made. We focus on vivo research rodents but also briefly discuss work nonhuman primates (NHPs). Some clinical translation, long‐term adeno‐associated virus (AAV) safety, are discussed some noninvasive, nonspecific technologies mentioned.

Published: May 1, 2025

Cochlear implants are the most successful neural prostheses used to restore hearing in severe-to-profound hearing-impaired individuals. The field of cochlear implant coding investigates interdisciplinary approaches translate acoustic signals into electrical pulses transmitted at electrode-neuron interface, ranging from signal preprocessing algorithms, enhancement, and feature extraction methodologies electric generation. In last five decades, numerous strategies have been proposed clinically experimentally. Initially developed speech perception, increasing computational possibilities now allow more complex signals, new techniques optimize transmission constantly gaining attention. This review provides insights history multichannel presents an extensive list implemented strategies. article briefly addresses each method considers promising future directions possible processing, with ultimate goal providing a current big picture large coding.
