Internet gaming disorder (IGD) affects 3% of the global population and poses an increasing risk due to advancements in technology. However, there is currently no definitive treatment for this condition. IGD not a primary but rather result "self-prescription" response emotional stressors. Unlike conventional mental health treatments that focus on itself, it crucial provide alternative activities can alleviate negative emotions. This paper extends concept self-medication hypothesis integrates with cognitive models behavioral therapy mindfulness-based therapy. In addition, introduces therapy-game (MBCT-G), program designed explore through gaming, focusing processes reward, which are typically emphasized traditional treatments. study serves as theoretical foundation development MBCT-G. Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and as an emerging condition DSM-5. IGD is increasingly prevalent, with various negative effects on individuals’ development adaptation. To address this issue, different therapeutic interventions, like CBT, virtual reality, mindfulness, or family therapy, have explored. This systematic review aimed to answer following research question: What effectiveness interventions reducing symptoms adolescents young adults diagnosed disorder? Following PRISMA guidelines, 22 studies published between 2014 2025 were included. Results show that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) most effective intervention, significantly severity, anxiety, depression. Combining CBT physical exercise mindfulness further enhanced outcomes. Other promising approaches include reality (VR), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), family-based interventions. Additionally, treatments involving animal-assisted showed potential improving emotional regulation interpersonal relationships. However, needed evaluate long-term efficacy explore therapies.

Abstract: Aim: This guideline provides evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of General Internet Use Disorder (IUD), a behavioural addiction characterized by excessive and compulsive internet use. IUD is prevalent, particularly among younger individuals, with varying rates across different age groups. Methods: Due to relatively young research field limited evidence available in certain areas, methodology an S1 was chosen. However, where possible, systematic literature review conducted, bringing closer that S2e guideline. Results: The prioritizes Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as main approach demonstrating effectiveness both individual group formats. In addition CBT, other interventions such combining CBT electroacupuncture, using pharmacotherapy (e. g., bupropion), applying relaxation techniques Qigong), engaging physical activities sports), offering solution-focused counselling are also recommended help manage symptoms enhance mental well-being. For children adolescents, suggests school-based family-centered interventions, focusing on psychoeducation, goal setting, fostering supportive environment healthier Joint patients various subtypes settings optimize care address chronic nature disorder. Conclusion: These aim guide clinicians effectively managing general improving patient outcomes.

Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is an emerging public health concern; effective treatments are still under development. This mini-review focuses on summarizing the main scientific evidence from psychological, pharmacological, brain imaging, and treatment approaches for IGD. We searched PubMed Scopus databases using keywords related to IGD treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) most extensively researched psychological IGD, supported by several randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Other promising include mindfulness, relapse prevention, abstinence protocols, family therapy. Pharmacological like bupropion escitalopram have shown benefits, especially when comorbid with conditions major depressive disorder. However, quality of moderate interventions but low pharmacological approaches. Emerging such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), repetitive magnetic (rTMS), electro-acupuncture demonstrated efficacy in reducing symptoms modulating activity. Brain imaging techniques functional resonance (fMRI) provided insights into neural mechanisms underlying effects, although these studies lack designs. While multimodal show promise, larger, well-designed RCTs needed establish treatments.
