Introduction Endurance running is a popular activity with varying motivations, yet the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on these motivations has not been thoroughly explored. This study investigates how SES (income, education, vocational status) shapes three groups runners: recreational runners (RRs), marathoners (MAs), and ultramarathoners (Us) in Poland. Methods A large-scale online survey ( N = 1,539) was conducted between January March 2008, capturing participants’ demographic characteristics, experience, motivation. Results The results reveal differences motivational priorities across groups. Us were more motivated by achievement self-esteem, while RRs prioritized social affiliation, showed balance two. However, reported effect sizes η 2 0.01) suggest that exist, they are small practical significance. Higher-SES individuals focused achievement-related goals, lower-SES emphasized health benefits connection. analysis also found higher-SES participants likely to complete marathons ultramarathons, financial stability professional access playing key role. Discussion Nevertheless, ultramarathon participation appeared depend intrinsic motivation than resources. These findings underline complex interplay SES, personality, emphasizing need for tailored strategies support diverse runners. Further research may explore broader psychological cultural factors influencing motivations.

Objectives Multi-marathoners, athletes dedicated to completing 100 + marathons, represent a unique endurance sport subculture. This study examines their psychological traits using the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) and Latent Class Analysis (LCA) identify personality-based profiles subgroup differences. Methods An online cross-sectional survey of 593 multi-marathoners (56% men, 44% women, mean age = 53.87, SD 9.91, countries 22) collected TIPI data. Reliability was assessed Cronbach’s Alpha Guttman’s Lambda 6. Statistical analyses included Mann-Whitney U tests, ANOVA Aligned Rank Transform (ART), Wilcoxon post-hoc Spearman’s correlations examine personality differences across gender, health variables. LCA identified distinct subgroups. Normative data served as comparison benchmark. Results Multi-marathoners exhibited higher conscientiousness (F(1,591) 2.42, p < 0.001) but lower emotional stability 5.525, than general population, suggesting strong goal-directed behaviour challenges in stress management. Women showed agreeableness (W 50809, 0.00091), while age-related were not statistically significant. revealed four subgroups, including those with high resilience others vulnerabilities. Conclusion display traits, particularly stability. These findings highlight need for tailored interventions support multi-marathon athletes' participation well-being. Future research should explore longitudinal patterns efficacy enhance

Introduction and Purpose: Long-distance running, especially marathons, tests human endurance physical limits. While the benefits of marathon running are well-documented, associated health risks often go unnoticed. This review aims to synthesize current knowledge on complications faced by runners, providing crucial insights for both amateur professional athletes.State Knowledge: Marathon imposes significant stress cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal structure, metabolic processes. Issues such as acute myocardial injury, overhydration leading hyponatremia, injuries prevalent. The also examines less common but severe like rhabdomyolysis marathon-related cardiac arrests. Despite robust fitness levels these remain a serious concern, necessitating preventive strategies proper monitoring.Summary: runners must be aware potential with prolonged activities. Precautionary measures, including tailored training programs, dietary adjustments, regular medical check-ups, essential mitigate risks. Additionally, further research is required develop more effective interventions guidelines that can safeguard participants. underscores need balanced approach respects physiological demands while ensuring safety runners.

This study examines the association between club membership and marathon performance using a dataset of 206,653 London Marathon runners. Our results show statistically significant for both males females which sees potentially mitigating pace decline with age resulting in substantial improvements finishing times up to 40 minutes. We implement production function framework align three principles economic organisation. The findings have relevance participants, coaches, athletic associations as well implications beyond athletics other sports or cooperative activities.
