Among eukaryotes, there are many examples of partial genome elimination during ontogenesis. A striking example this phenomenon is the loss entire avian chromosomes meiosis, called a germline-restricted chromosome (GRC). The GRC absent in somatic tissues but present germ cells. It has been established that prophase I male usually represented by univalent surrounded heterochromatin. In study, an immunocytochemical analysis zebra finch spermatocytes was performed to focus on some details chromosome's organization. For first time, it shown contains HORMAD1 protein, which participates formation full axial element. This element signs delay core protein loading, probably owing peculiarities meiotic silencing chromatin. presence repressive marks (H3K9me3 and H3K27me3) lack RNA polymerase II, typically associated with active transcription, indicate transcriptional inactivation body, despite known activity genes GRC. Nevertheless, RPA RAD51 proteins were found at sites, indicating repair double-strand breaks chromosome. Our results provide new insights into behavior structure

ABSTRACT Wildlife biodiversity is essential for healthy, resilient and sustainable ecosystems. For biologists, this diversity also represents a treasure trove of genetic, molecular developmental mechanisms that deepen our understanding the origins rules life. However, rapid decline in reported recently foreshadows potentially catastrophic collapse many important ecosystems associated irreversible loss forms life on planet. Immediate action by conservationists all stripes required to avert disaster. In Spotlight, we draw together insights proposals discussed at recent workshop hosted Revive & Restore, which gathered experts discuss how stem cell technologies can support traditional conservation techniques help protect animal biodiversity. We reprogramming, vitro gametogenesis, disease modelling embryo modelling, highlight prospects leveraging beyond mammalian species.
