The gut microbiota is a diverse bacterial community consisting of approximately 2000 species, predominantly from five phyla: Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobia. microbiota's species create distinct compounds that impact the host's health, including well-known short-chain fatty acids. These are produced through breakdown dietary fibers fermentation undigested carbohydrates by intestinal microbiota. main acids consist acetate, propionate, butyrate. concentration butyrate in mammalian intestines varies depending on diet. Its functions use as an energy source, cell differentiation, reduction inflammatory process intestine, defense against oxidative stress. It also plays epigenetic role histone deacetylases, thus helping to reduce risk colon cancer. Finally, affects gut-brain axis crossing brain-blood barrier, making it crucial determine right concentrations for both local peripheral effects. In recent years, there has been significant amount attention given polyphenols promoting human health. Polyphenols play roles protecting health can produce fermentation. This paper aims summarize information key summits related negative correlation between diversity chronic diseases guide future research determining specific activity carry out these vital functions.

Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Miller is a plant belonging to the Cactaceae family adapted live in environments characterized by long periods of drought and arid or desert climates. This an aerial part composed structures transformed branches, called “cladodes”, which are essential reduce excessive perspiration water appear covered with thorns. The composition cladodes includes water, polysaccharides, fiber, proteins, vitamins, fatty acids, sterols, polyphenols, minerals. main purposes this scientific work (a) compare insoluble fiber (IF) extracted from O. same but collected different seasonal (winter summer) develop new extraction protocols that able improve yield obtained (b) evaluate antioxidant potential study possible variations as result protocol chosen. first objective was achieved (1) measuring amount IF harvested winter summer (CW CS, respectively) (2) modifying three variables involved protocol. To achieve second objective, following experiments were carried out: measurement CW CS; cellular reactive oxygen species; (3) activity some enzymes; (4) comparison polyphenol content CS. In conclusion, results showed process can be improved, achieving uniform regardless seasonality; effect may vary depending on

Alzheimer's Disease (AD), a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, is the primary cause of dementia. Despite significant advancements in neuroscience, definitive cure or treatment for this debilitating disease remains elusive. A notable characteristic AD oxidative stress, which has been identified as potential therapeutic target. Polyphenols, secondary metabolites plant origin, have attracted attention due to their potent antioxidant properties. Epidemiological studies suggest correlation between consumption polyphenol-rich foods and prevention chronic diseases, including disorders, underscores polyphenols strategy management. Hence, comprehensive review focuses on diverse roles AD, with particular emphasis neuroprotective potential. Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar were used leading databases study selection, from 2018 late March 2024. Analytical chemistry serves crucial tool characterizing polyphenols, nuanced exploration extraction methods various sources, often employing chemometric techniques holistic interpretation advances field. Moreover, examines current vitro vivo research, aiming enhance understanding polyphenols' role providing valuable insights forthcoming approaches context.

This study aims to recover the main by-product of Citrus fruits processing, raw pomace, known also as pastazzo, produce plant complexes be used in treatment inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Food-grade extracts from orange (OE) and lemon (LE) pomace were obtained by ultrasound-assisted maceration. After a preliminary phytochemical biological screening vitro assays, primary secondary metabolites characterized proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) liquid chromatography coupled diode array detection electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-DAD-ESI-MS) analyses. The intestinal bioaccessibility antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties investigated simulated gastro-intestinal digestion followed treatments on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line (Caco-2). tight junctions-associated structural proteins (ZO-1, Claudin-1, Occludin), transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER), reactive oxygen species (ROS)-levels, expression some key (CAT, NRF2 SOD2) (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-8) genes, pNFkB p65 translocation, evaluated. OE LE digesta, which did not show any significant difference terms profile, showed effects protecting against LPS-induced barrier damage, oxidative stress response. In conclusion, both emerged potential candidates for further preclinical studies vivo IBD models.
