China’s tourism industry has rapidly grown over the past two decades, significantly contributing to national economy but also increasing carbon emissions. This raised concerns about environmental sustainability, especially given commitments peak emissions by 2030 and achieve neutrality 2060. study analyzes changes in emissions, carrying capacity, Tourism Carbon Pressure Index (TCPI) of from 2000 2022, aiming support green transition sector. Examining data 31 provinces, we observed a significant growth trend with temporary decline during COVID-19 pandemic 2020, followed rebound 2021 2022. The findings reveal that capacity are relatively stable eastern regions, more pronounced central western particularly west. TCPI is higher east, indicating greater pressure, while it regions. To sustainable development, propose promoting transportation, eco-friendly hotels, scenic spots, improving resource utilization efficiency, enhancing policy technological innovation, adopting regional development strategies.
