The observation that certain therapeutic strategies for targeting inflammation benefit patients with distinct immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) is exemplified by the success of TNF blockade in conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and skin psoriasis, albeit only subsets individuals each condition. This suggests intersecting "nodes" networks at a molecular cellular level may drive and/or maintain IMIDs, being “shared” between traditionally diagnoses without mapping neatly to single clinical phenotype. In line this proposition, integrative tumour tissue analyses oncology have highlighted novel cell states acting across diverse cancers, important implications precision medicine. Drawing upon advances field, narrative review will first summarise learnings from Human Cell Atlas health as platform interrogating IMID tissues. It then cross-disease studies date inform endeavour, before considering future directions field.
