Ionic liquids (ILs) are considered salt in liquid state, which is composed of organic cations and anions with low melting points (<100 °C). ILs have become a major scientific area an extensive range applications including chemistry, electrochemistry, pharmaceutics. received great research interest the pharmaceutical field as solvents, anti-solvents, co-solvents, reagents synthesis formulation. While therapeutic been investigated for oral trans-dermal drug delivery systems showing promising compatibility wide therapeutics, enhanced permeation through skin, cell membrane solvation to open channels facilitate molecular passage, their potential cross challenging blood-brain barrier (BBB) remains unanswered question. IL-based therapies could potentially be game changer improving cellular targets both at across BBB. In this review, we discuss (1) tunable physicochemical properties ILs; (2) vast various development improvement systems; (3) approach increasing accumulation brain tissue.
