The study was conducted in the province of Guayas, located coastal region Ecuador. researchers analysed blood samples from 30 horses different breeds (purebred, pony and mixed breeds) to detect presence micro- nanoplastics (MPs NPs). Blood smear scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used identify quantify plastic particles randomly selected animals aged between 2 12 years, with a body weight (BW) 100 380 kg condition score (BCS) 5 6 (on scale 1 9), fed on natural grass balanced supplements. results did not show MPs, but NPs identified all animals, an average 51 per field 1700 square microns (µm²) at depth micrometres (µm) size 426.33 nanometres (nm). No significant difference found number or NP sexes (females males) (P=0.288); greater observed younger (P<0.040). pure-blood breed had larger (P < 0.020) crossbreeds amount 0.010) compared other breeds. research concludes that are present equine blood, highlighting ability these contaminants enter potentially cause adverse health effects. In particular, showed higher suggesting effects exposure may be more severe early stages life.
