The aging of population has become an issue great concern because its rapid increase. Aging is important risk factor many chronic diseases. Resveratrol could be found in foods, such as grapes, red wine, peanuts, and blueberries. Many studies reported that resveratrol possessed various bioactivities, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, cardiovascular protection, anticancer, antidiabetes mellitus, antiobesity, neuroprotection, antiaging effects. mechanisms were mainly ameliorating oxidative stress, relieving inflammatory reaction, improving mitochondrial function, regulating apoptosis. effective safe compound for the prevention treatment age‐related In this review, we summarize effects on aging, life extension, several diseases, with special attention paid to action.

Oxidative stress (OS) has the ability to damage different molecules and cellular structures, altering correct function of organs systems. OS accumulates in body by endogenous exogenous mechanisms. Increasing evidence points involvement physiopathology various chronic diseases that require prolonged periods pharmacological treatment. Long-term treatments may contribute changes systemic OS. In this review, we discuss pathological mechanisms some diseases, pro- or antioxidant effects their treatments, possible adjuvant alternatives. Diseases such as high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, diabetes mellitus increased risk cardiovascular disease. Antihypertensive, lipid-lowering, hypoglycemic help reduce with an additional benefit. Treatment methotrexate autoimmune inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis, a dual role stimulating production producing mitochondrial dysfunction. However, it can also indirectly decrease induced inflammation. Medicaments used treat neurodegenerative tend related reactive oxygen species (ROS) balance On other hand, immunosuppressive cancer human immunodeficiency virus infection increase ROS, causing significant oxidative systems without widely documented administration

Aging is a complex phenomenon characterized by the progressive loss of tissue and organ function. The oxidative-stress theory aging postulates that age-associated functional losses are due to accumulation ROS-induced damage. Liver function impairment non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) common among elderly. NAFLD can progress steatohepatitis (NASH) evolve hepatic cirrhosis or carcinoma. Oxidative stress, lipotoxicity, inflammation play key role in progression NAFLD. A growing body evidence supports therapeutic potential omega-3 polyunsaturated acids (n-3 PUFA), mainly docosahaexenoic (DHA) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), on metabolic diseases based their antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we performed systematic review clinical trials analyzing efficacy n-3 PUFA both systemic oxidative stress NAFLD/NASH features adults. As matter fact, it remains controversial whether effective counteract stress. On other hand, data suggest supplementation may be early stages NAFLD, but not patients with more severe NASH. Future perspectives relevant aspects should considered when planning new randomized controlled also discussed.

Free radicals and oxidants are involved in physiological signaling pathways, although an imbalance between pro-oxidant anti-oxidant systems favor of the former leads to major biomolecular damage. This is so-called oxidative stress, a complex process that affects us all responsible for development many diseases. Lipids very sensitive oxidant attack to-date, malondialdehyde (MDA), 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) F2-isoprostane main biomarkers lipid peroxidation assessment. They derive from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) either by enzyme-catalyzed reactions (physiological) or non-enzyme (pathological). The profile PUFAs present tissue will determine proportion each biomarker. In this review we aim discuss proper method MDA determination using HPLC. We also offer reference values humans pathological conditions.
