Abstract Background Particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in aerodynamic diameter (PM ) is a significant air pollutant known to adversely affect respiratory health and increase the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Furthermore, climate change exacerbates these impacts, as extreme temperatures relative humidity (RH) levels can intensify effects PM . This study aims examine joint , temperature, RH on risk COPD. Methods A case–control was conducted among 1,828 participants from 2017 2022 (995 COPD patients 833 controls). The radial basis function interpolation utilized estimate participants' individual mean differences 1-day, 7-day, 1-month periods. Logistic regression models examined associations environmental exposures with adjusting for confounders. Joint by quartiles temperature were also examined. Results We observed that 1 µg/m 3 7-day associated 1.05-fold 1.06-fold OR ( p < 0.05 ). For RH, we U-shaped optimal identified 21.2 °C, 23.8 °C respectively, 73.8%, 76.7%, 75.4% respectively effect show high (> 23.5 °C) both extremely low (69.3%) (80.9%) generally exacerbate COPD, especially over longer exposure durations. Conclusion underscore importance pollution control comprehensive research mitigate context change.

This study examines the differences in particulate matter (PM) properties and microbial compositions between natural urban environments, providing foundational data for environmental monitoring biothreat detection. Air samples were collected during spring early summer from two distinct locations: a forest/lake area, an parking lot adjacent to high-traffic roadway. Quantitative phase imaging microscopy genomic sequencing employed characterize particle size distributions, statistical properties, community structures these environments. The results revealed significant PM locations. Urban air exhibited higher concentrations that reflect pollution sources, whereas environment displayed greater variability distribution, correlating with diverse biological content. Genomic showed lower diversity of communities compared area but uniformity. To sum up, by integrating optical sequencing, this research demonstrates feasibility establishing baselines characteristics bio-component diversity. findings underscore potential combining real-time sensing tools detection improved settings.

In this matched case-control, cross-sectional study, two schools were selected located in different areas, school # 1 was near a traffic-polluted area, 2 area away from area. Of total 300 students, 150 (75 boys 75 girls) students The mean age 13.53 ± 1.20 years. both enrolled their voluntary involvement, status, by age, height, weight, gender, nationality, regional, socioeconomic, cultural background, admission criteria schools. environmental "PM2.5, CO, NO2, SO2, O3" recorded. level 35.00 0.65, significantly higher compared (29.95 0.32). pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters performed electronic Spirometer. included "Forced Vital Capacity (FVC); Forced Expiratory Volume first second (FEV1); Ratio (FEV1/FVC %); Flow 25 % (FEF 50 %) Peak Rate (PEFR) recorded". results revealed that values for FEF-50 (3.31 1.18); FEF-75 (1.66 0.80) PEFR (5.02 1.79) decreased among studying situated motor vehicle polluted those positioned (5.85 6.21) (p = 0.001); (4.49 6.87) 0.001), (8.14 15.08) 0.012). Ischemic stroke (IS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) account for a large burden of premature deaths. However, few studies have investigated the associations between fine particular matter (PM2.5) components mortality IS, COPD DM. We aimed to examine these in Beijing, China. Data on daily mortality, air pollutants meteorological factors from 2008 2011 Beijing were collected. Daily concentrations five PM2.5 components, namely, sulfate ion (SO42−), ammonium (NH4+), nitrate (NO3−), organic (OM) black carbon (BC), obtained Tracking Air Pollution (TAP) database The association deaths was explored using quasi-Poisson regression with distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM). average SO42−, NH4+, NO3−, OM BC 11.24, 8.37, 12.00, 17.34 3.32 μg/m3, respectively. Abstract Background The literature on the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk has focused mainly during first second trimesters, research results are inconsistent. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate associations PM2.5 preconception, trimester GDM in pregnant women Guangzhou. Methods A retrospective cohort of 26 354 was conducted, estimating PM2.5, with a diameter >10 µm (PM10), sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) ozone (O3) preconception trimesters. Analyses were performed using Cox proportional hazards models nonlinear distributed lag models. Results found that or combination two pollutants (PM2.5+PM10, PM2.5+SO2, PM2.5+CO PM2.5+O3) be significantly associated (P < 0.05). In trimester, significant interactions for occupation anaemia GDM. When concentrations ≥19.56, ≥25.69 ≥23.87 μg/m3 respectively, hazard ratio started increase. critical window identified from 9 11 weeks before conception. Conclusions Our suggest trimesters increases GDM, period appearing exposure.
