Objectives Acupuncture is an effective therapy for depression. Nevertheless, the results of clinical studies on major depressive disorder (MDD) remain controversial. Methods By November 2023, English-language published randomized trials involving acupuncture treating MDD were searched. The analysis comprised 9 with 809 subjects who met eligibility criteria. quality included was evaluated using Quality in Prognostic Studies (QUIPS) tool. Results moderately alleviated severity MDD, independent method used (standardized mean difference [SMD] = −0.55; confidence interval [CI] 95%: −1.19, 0.09; P 0.08). moderated by MA, regardless antidepressant use (SMD −0.49; CI95%: −1.13, 0.14, 0.09). Subgroup revealed a nonsignificant reduction when manual alone −0.52; −1.47, 0.44, 0.18). reduced and antidepressants −0.47; −0.88, −0.06). Laser electroacupuncture (with or without antidepressants) did not significantly affect MDD. Conclusions Manual may alleviate but its benefit inconclusive.

Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is newly established as a category of eating (ED). Acupuncture one treatment option for ED. However, no cases acupuncture ARFID have been reported. A 28-year-old female presented with reduced and weight, abdominal bloating, abnormal sense taste, tongue pain. Her body weight (BW) had around 50 kg until four years previously. Three before, her symptoms occurred, BW decreased to 36.5 after experiencing excessive mental stress at workplace. She was diagnosed by psychosomatic physician tended refuse prescribed antipsychotic drugs. treated weekly the Hokushin-kai style, traditional Japanese acupuncture, moxibustion method. After month, patient felt somewhat better returned work once week first time in two years. Four months later, started increase. 10 months, increased 48 kg. continues. This case suggests an optional ARFID. Further studies, such combination medications would be desirable.
