Introduction Post-pandemic alcohol consumption is on the rise due to people starting adapt themselves practice of consuming alcoholic beverages at home. In addition direct effects intoxication and addiction, estimates suggest that contributes approximately 20-30% global cases oesophagal cancer, liver cirrhosis liver, homicide, epilepsy, motor vehicle accidents. India, one-fifth consumers were found be dependent. The study was done with primary objective finding out prevalence dependence among users exploring reasons for in an urban area Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. Methodology design explanatory sequential mixed-methods study. It 624 adult male Chennai district, selected by cluster sampling method a community setting. Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) used diagnose dependence. Using purposive method, in-depth interviews conducted 24 alcohol-dependent explore understand their experiences, identify common themes, provide insights into problem. Quantitative data analysed using Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY), qualitative deductive content analysis Qualcoder software. Results mean age participants 38±7 years. Among current consumers, 16.9% (106/624) suffering from significant predictors unskilled occupation (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 2.09), having suicidal ideation (AOR 2.4), family members 1.90), depression 3.98), drinking pattern-affected interpersonal relationships 2.29), not receiving health education about use school/college 1.74). major themes codes identified dependents factors related mental health, physical social factors.
