Challenges in the treatment and removal of recalcitrant emerging organic pollutants wastewater prompt development advanced oxidative processes (AOPs). Hydroxyl radicals are non-specific capable reacting with a diverse range concern. In this study, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was removed from aqueous solutions efficiencies between 80 90%. The presence H2O2, humic acid, other inorganic ions negatively influenced degradation efficiency. However, S2O82− found to increase efficiency, which attributed formation SO4•− addition •OH radicals. Additionally, Fenton-assisted electron beam showed an improved 2.88 × 10−4 M HCQ average improvement ≈10% at doses 0.5 2.0 kGy total carbon chemical oxygen demand reduction. H2O2 concentration molar ratio H2O2: Fe2+ capacity process. A mechanism for has been proposed based on reactions eaq−.

In vitro cancer cell cytotoxicity (IC50 values) of (E)-3-(4’-methylbenzylidene)-4-chromanone (IIIb) showed >50.0 decreases in comparison to those the respective tetralone derivative (IIIc). On other hand, such a decrease was not observed analogous 4-OCH3 (IIc and IIIc) derivatives. Since compounds can be considered cyclic chalcone analogs, kinetics diastereoselectivity non-enzyme catalyzed reactions with reduced glutathione (GSH) N-acetylcysteine (NAC) IIIb IIIc were investigated assess possible role thiol-reactivity increased IIIb. Reactivity stereochemical outcome evaluated using high-pressure liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Molecular modeling calculations performed rationalize differences thiol-reactivities chromanones (III) previously tetralones (II). The results indicated spontaneous III their recorded biological effects.
