In recent years, block-style commercial complexes have become a prominent form of architecture in many Chinese cities. The thermal comfort their outdoor spaces significantly influences people’s activities and the overall quality these areas. This study explores relationship between morphological elements such comfort, using quantifiable methods to identify key control indicators. Enhancing is crucial for improving spatial quality, increasing dwell time, boosting vibrancy. Focusing on hot summer cold winter climate Shanghai, this research analyzed two representative complexes. It employed computer simulations sensory surveys demonstrate that block morphology impacts comfort. Three variables—street density, number street intersections, orientation—were selected effects. Spatial prototypes were categorized, performance was evaluated numerical simulations. Based findings, iteratively optimized. concluded by proposing evaluation indicators enhance also provided external layout strategies similar climates, offering architects urban designers decision-making criteria improve spaces. contributes creating more comfortable vibrant environments.
