This study employed mixed methods, including a survey of 400 households, 21 key informants, and 10 focus groups conducted in January-March 2019, to evaluate the contribution Volcanoes National Park (VNP) conservation local food security Rwanda. Data was collected from communities within 0-5 km 5-10 park buffers, facilitating distance-based comparisons. Food status assessed using Consolidated Approach Reporting Indicators Security. Despite government attention security, its integration into VNP remains minimal. Shockingly, 71% residents experience insecurity, concentrated buffer. Interestingly, while only 38% households directly benefit conservation, 72% these beneficiaries reside zone. suggests that community revenue-sharing programs are disproportionately funded at park's edge, where human pressure on resources is most significant. These findings highlight need for policy strategy amendments, as well revisions management plan, effectively integrate concerns efforts. Linking specified percentage funds participation relevant programs, co-managing land needs, weaving aid safety nets vulnerable groups, prompt wildlife damage payouts secured livelihoods fostered coexistence, skill training microloans diversifying income curbing poaching crucial enhancing among around VNP.
