Cryptic genetic differentiation is being increasingly documented in birds and other organisms using genome‐wide variation. A recent example of cryptic a widespread species with conserved morphology the northern house wren Troglodytes aedon . We found that, despite extremely similar no vocal differences, two subspecies wren, T. a. (eastern) parkmanii (western), exhibited both nuclear mitochondrial genomic differentiation. Individuals present along Front Range Colorado Rocky Mountains possessed variation intermediate between ; additionally, divergent lineages, corresponding to western eastern populations, occur Colorado. However, dynamics this putative contact zone (i.e. amount hybridization or introgression) degree remain uncharacterized. To expand our understanding population explore possibility hybridization, we used double digest restriction‐site associated (ddRAD) approach sequenced 127 wrens, including 109 individuals from across Wyoming, as well nine each allopatric regions.
