Abstract
This
chapter
considers
why
adolescence
and
emerging
adulthood
are
the
most
sensitive
life
periods
for
nonsuicidal
self-injury
(NSSI)
summarizes
knowledge
about
course
developmental
risk
protective
factors
of
NSSI.
includes
a
literature
review
on
associations
between
NSSI
early
trauma,
personality
identity
development,
emotion
regulation,
cognitive
vulnerabilities,
mental
disorders,
parenting
family
relationships,
peer
relationships.
The
authors
then
evaluate
possible
consequences
engaging
in
as
an
adolescent
or
adult
discuss
how
we
can
intervene
to
address
among
young
people.
Finally,
formulate
recommendations
further
our
understanding
move
into
next
decade
research.
One
main
suggestions
is
consider
variation
future
prospective
studies
well
increased
focus
prevention
intervention.

Non-suicidal
self-injury
behavior
(NSSI)

serious
public
health
concern
that
requires
immediate
attention.
Despite
the
high
prevalence
of
NSSI
among
Chinese
population,
there
significant
gap
in
research
on
comprehensive
picture

field.

scoping
review
was
conducted
to
investigate
prevalence,
methods,
risk
factors,
and
preventive
intervention
programs
