Designing and using technologies to support Non-Pharmacological Interventions (NPI) for People with Dementia (PwD) has drawn increasing attention in HCI, the potential expectations of higher user engagement positive outcomes. Yet, NPI can only be valuable if practitioners successfully incorporate them into their ongoing intervention practices beyond a limited research period. Currently, we know little about how experience perceive these practical PwD. In this paper, investigate question through observations five in-person activities interviews 11 therapists 5 caregivers. Our findings elaborate workflow process characteristics, practitioners' attitudes, experiences, perceptions technology-mediated practice. Generally, our participants emphasized is complex professional practice, needing fine-grained, personalized evaluation planning, executing situated, multi-stakeholder collaborative. existing often fail consider specific which leads limitations effectiveness or sustainable use. Drawing on findings, discuss possible implications designing more useful technologies.

Abstract Background Digital assistive technologies (DATs) have emerged as promising tools to support the daily life of people with dementia (PWD) by offering in various aspects life. Quality (QOL) is an important consideration when discussing care PWD relation their autonomy. Current research tends concentrate either on specific categories DATs, or provide a generic view. Therefore, it would be essence review different kinds and how they contribute improving QOL for PWD. Objective This scoping aimed DATs impact Method For this broad literature search was performed Cochrane, Embase, PubMed, Scopus, Web Science, covering scientific from January 2013 May 2023. Screening data extraction were conducted, followed quantitative qualitative analysis using thematic principles Therapeutics (DTx) Alliance DAT grouping. Results The identified 6’083 records, 1’056 duplicates. After screening, 4’560 full-texts excluded, yielding 122 studies designs. categorized into digital therapeutics (n=109), patient monitoring (n=30), diagnostics (n=2), health system clinical software ( n=1). These QOL: preserving autonomy, engagement, social interaction, promotion, activities living, cognition, maintaining dignity, managing behavioral psychological symptoms (BPSD), safety/surveillance. Conclusions Various offer extensive support, elevating are predominantly used aging-in-place independent living through assistance tasks.
