Illusory health beliefs (IHBs) represent invalid ideations about and potentially impact behaviours practices in meaningful ways. Examples include the uptake of methods with less conclusive evidence/support (e.g., complementary alternative medicine, CAM) versus empirically validated approaches recommended by professionals). However, measurement obfuscation IHB has hindered construct operationalisation. This study examined a newly developed measure (the Health Beliefs Scale) context outcomes. Specifically, we explored adherence to lifestyle, vaccines) trust healthcare professionals CAM use. Assessments included theoretically linked constructs, comprising locus control, belief science, CAM. Using sample 1507 (734 males, 768 females, 7 non-binary), statistical model tested relationships across time points. Path analysis revealed that IHBs aligned openness unorthodox treatments alongside lower confidence conventional treatment methods. Crucially, control science mediated/weakened this relationship, predicting greater recommendations professionals. Belief strengthened relationship between The findings provide initial evidence regarding contribution outcomes, basis for future research further explore IHB-health relationship.

Objectives This scoping review aimed to explore the relationship between health locus of control (HLOC) and vaccine hesitancy among parents children aged 0–18 years, focusing on tools methods used assess these constructs. Design The followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses extension Scoping guidelines adhered established methodologies reviews, including systematic searches across four electronic databases. Data sources PubMed, PsycINFO, Web Science CINAHL were searched using a comprehensive search strategy identify relevant studies 24 September 2024. Results synthesised narratively highlight associations patterns. Five involving total 11 758 caregivers years met inclusion criteria. Higher internal was consistently associated lower higher compliance, while chance correlated greater hesitancy. Powerful others (ie, trust healthcare professionals) emerged as predictor better adherence. Conclusions findings suggest that providers are predictors acceptance parents.
