Melatonin has several impacts on the cardiovascular system, including potential to reduce blood pressure in addition its role regulating sleep. It ability decrease adrenergic system activity and indirectly enhance endothelial function. can provide antihypertensive effects by stimulating own receptors central nervous peripheral arteries. In addition, melatonin is a treatment for patients with hypertension, “night-peaker” category. However, results of only few randomized trials suggest that supplements are effective hypertension. lower due vasodilatation, direct blocking Ca2+ channels increased production nitric oxide endothelium; antioxidant properties; suppression sympathetic reduction norepinephrine production, as well activation parasympathetic system. Because drug usually taken at bedtime, it may increase duration quality sleep therefore during Low endogenous secretion be associated elevated nocturnal comorbid diseases. exhibits an excellent safety profile.
