Abstract Successful computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) relies on group engagement, a complex construct characterized by multifaceted, dynamic, socio-emotional, and socio-cognitive processes. This paper provides detailed analysis of with particular focus nonverbal behaviors as indicators high versus low engagement. Using video observations multi-method approach, we examine in detail the relationships between different dimensions engagement (i.e., behavioral, social, cognitive, conceptual-to-consequential engagement) behaviors. qualitative case analysis, also provide rich examination selected cases to identify role that play high-engagement sequences compared low-engagement sequences. Our findings shed light specific behaviors, including nodding, laughing, eye contact, significant Notably, more these are evident sequences, suggesting mutual reinforcement each dimension engagement—with exception behavioral where increased laughing or smiling is but still serves productive process. The concludes discussion implications findings. By demonstrating important indicators, this work contributes understanding complex, contextualized nature CSCL settings.
