Abstract Research on land use change (LUC) is considered as one of the important studies contributing to assessment efficiency and development appropriate policies for sustainable in current urbanization period. Modeling a method simulating changes based understanding LUC laws forecasting future LUC. This study uses Markov chains simulate probability transition matrix forecast Ho Chi Minh (HCM) city by 2050. The research results show that three main groups HCM were agricultural land, residential water. group occupied largest area, but it has decreased nearly 10% from 2000 2020. In contrast, urban had strong increasing trend, with an increase 25% after 20 years. terms spatial distribution, tended develop directions: east, southwest, northwest. With accuracy 91%, predicts 2030, will still account more than half city’s 2050, this only less 40%. projected become 50%. As result, shows difference target 2030.
