Crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, Russian-Ukrainian war, and challenges associated with sustainable development have emphasized need for local food to increase system’s resilience. Therefore, this research analyzes self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) revealed comparative advantage (RCA) of cereals in Western Balkan countries (Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia) compares them same indicators all European countries. The methodological framework examined macro-level competitiveness countries, as well Europe. results showed that higher (109.12%) (2.21) compared group Balkans (71.89%; 1.53), which lower values mentioned indicators. econometric modeling GDP per capita negatively influences SSR cereals, agriculture value added worker area harvested under positively influence cereals.
