Phenolic compounds possess the potential to function as antioxidants, hence growing interest in ethnomedicine use them for treatment or prevention of diseases associated with oxidative stress. This study measured total phenolics and flavonoid contents (TPC TFC) vitro antioxidant activity Asplenium platyneuron extract its fractions. The methanol was partitioned successively n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc) n-butanol. Thereafter, EtOAc soluble fractionated using vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC) gradients n-hexane/ dichloromethane/methanol. free radical scavenging determined by diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), reducing power ferric (FRAP) capacity assays. TPC fraction 9.31 ± 0.76 mg GAE/g compared 1.33 0.61 n-hexane fraction. TFC 139.73 8.03 QE/g higher than 35.73 15.01 n-butanol ethylacetate exhibited highest DPPH 80.50%, FRAP 413.00 1.28 IC50 1.31 0.68mg/mL. There a strong correlation between TFC/TPC. VLC fractions, AP2 AP7 (IC50 1.43 1.34 1.41± 1.11 mg/mL respectively) elicited other Dereplication analysis identified three phenolics; apigenin 6-C-hexoside-8-C-pentoside, kaempferol 3-O-caffeoylsophoroside schaftoside from A. platyneuron. high TPC/TFC properties makes promising source novel lead antioxidants.
