This article presents an analytical review of scientific studies focusing on the issue microplastic pollution in freshwater bodies Russia. The study examines detail primary sources particles entering aquatic environments, including domestic and industrial wastewater, rainwater runoff, urban dust, diffuse such as decomposition plastic waste landfills natural environments. Special attention is given to methods collecting water sediment samples employed by various research groups. Contemporary approaches detection identification are described, visual using optical electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy. data impact microplastics biological organisms ecosystems, disruptions trophic networks impairments functioning endocrine, reproductive, immune systems. Aspects mechanical toxicological effects considered, well processes contaminant sorption onto their surfaces. conclusion highlights need for further standardization methodologies additional investigations gain a deeper understanding extent distribution particularly regions with insufficient empirical data. importance developing comprehensive strategies minimize freshwaters emphasized.
